Horse racing: Clubs docked as racedays called off
The Awapuni meeting was abandoned on Saturday. The club has lost the rights to host its next two scheduled meetings. It will not be paid its meeting fee. Canterbury Jockey Club will be docked some of their meeting payments for the NZ Cup Day on November 12. The sport's three codes are facing a funding shortfall. New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing will cut stakes for owners and trainers. They will also cut money paid to clubs who fail to provide a racing surface. There is a winter abandonment of tracks due to heavy rain and summer abandonment due of patchy or insufficient irrigation.
