Percy Willis (second choice) has to step up on his hurdle efforts thus far but as a useful Flat performer making his handicap debut off a lowly mark he has to be given serious consideration. Last year’s winner Hardy Boy and recent Hereford scorer Samtara also come into the reckoning but the Wetherby handicap in which William Of York got the better of SONNEMOSER last month may prove the key formline. The step up in trip should suit Sonnemoser, who was messed about a bit at Wetherby, and those placings can be reversed.

This should rest between the five penalised winners. Moviddy is the pick of them on BHA ratings but she wasn’t at her best in a good handicap at Newbury three weeks ago, a race in which BLUE BEACH finished an excellent second. Mel Rowley’s mare has more to come in this headgear and is preferred. Artemis Kimbo (second choice) could bounce back to form with a tongue-tie added, while Moviddy’s stalemate Just Sophie stepped up a level here last time and isn’t fully exposed.

Olly Murphy’s OUT THE GLEN has resumed from his absence in good nick and this front-runner should put up another bold show. Master Malcolm will have no problem with the conditions after waltzing home here last time and he’s the danger, along with Tom Creen.

All the hurdle-race winners are in the mix but DANCILA may well be the pick judged on the form he showed at Musselburgh and Taunton. He’s been steered away from soft and heavy ground by his current connections. Matterhorn is feared most given the style of his all-the-way win at Taunton but Cruz Control, No Risk With Lou and Western Zephyr could also be players if judged on their best efforts.

Being brought out again so quickly provides a ready excuse for ARMCHAIR FARMER‘s latest start and he was thoroughly dominant one week earlier. The Questioner’s form dipped more substantially on his latest start but he’s back hurdling today and feared most given the improved chase form he showed before that. Godrevy Point is another potential threat on a return from chasing and others have possibilities.

Judged on the manner of his previous course and distance win last time, DROP HIM IN (NAP) may well find further improvement to score again. Doyens De Ante was his nearest pursuer that day but is now 3lb out of the handicap, which probably makes Eurkash a greater danger. The big threat, however, would come from Duke Of Deception if he could repeat the form he showed on his penultimate start.

It will be intriguing to see what the market makes of Constitution Hill’s half-brother Land Genie, especially as his trainer has some idea as to where he stands with BORODALE. However, the selection was odds-on for his debut at Market Rasen and that race wasn’t staged to suit him so he gets another chance.

The Kemble Brewery is a newcomer of note, while Mersey Street, Hey Brother (second choice) and Crystal Mer have all shown clear promise in this discipline. TIGGER also shaped encouragingly on his debut at Ascot in the autumn (finished just behind a stablemate who won his next start) and he may be open to the greatest progress.
