A low-key Monday of racing kicks off a new December week due to the frosty weather. Only one meeting has survived the elements and the action will come to us from Wolverhampton's evening card. Plumpton and Ayr were set to hold jumps meetings but have sadly had to abandon, but Wolverhampton on the all-weather survives. Just eight races in a full day obviously means tipping is difficult for the experts, but there are still plenty of eye-catching selections and here we select some of the best to highlight...
Most Napped Horses Today
Richard Fahey's MY HARRISON GEORGE came agonisingly close to a win last time out on the all weather at Newcastle just shy of a month ago, and three expert judges think he is the best bet tonight to go one better in the 20:00 contest at Wolverhampton. In the North East on his previous run he was just beaten in a bunched finish by Jewel Maker, in the end going down by the slimmest of margins a short head. That was a class 6 handicap and here he steps up to a class 5, however he will be running with just nine stone on his back and the step up two furlongs in distance should be no problem at all.
Garry Owen of the Daily Record, SportingLife and Fortunatus of the Sheffield Star are the pundits siding with Fahey's runner to make amends for Newcastle, and at 11/4 he is the second favourite behind market leader God Of Thunder, who obviously rates the main danger.
The Punt at the Racing Post currently lead the way in the Naps table, showing a profit of over £22 to a £1 stake so far this campaign. They have plumped for 11/2 chance SHADES OF SUMMER in the 19:00 at Wolverhampton this evening as the best bet of the day, and with limited races to choose from this is certainly an interesting pick. The horse has disappointed since joining Jane Chapel-Hyam, but on all three starts has run on turf. This switch back to the AW, and weaker opposition, could mean the Shamardal filly bounces back to something like her best and if she does she could well be the one to beat in this race.
Second in the Naps table, The Irish Sun went for a runner at Plumpton as their best bet which obviously is now a non runner after the fixture was abandoned. The third placed expert is Rory Paddock of the Jersey Evening Post, and his followers will know their fate early as his best bet runs in the first race of the day at 17:00 at Wolverhampton. MISS CALCULATION gets the vote and after disappointing over this course last time out, has to bounce back. The drop to seven furlongs should be in her favour and at 9/2 she has been supported a fair bit so far already in the market, which is interesting.

- Bubbles Burst At Fairyhouse - On Sunday Impaire Et Passe made his first start in open company, but Willie Mullins's star novice hurdler from last season was upset by the returning champion TEAHUPOO for Gordon Elliott. The winner drifted to 3/1 and won with aplomb, and has been cut to favourite for the 2024 Stayers' Hurdle.
- I AM MAXIMUS shows his class - There was another shock at Fairyhouse in the Drinmore Novices' Chase, when I Am Maximus outbattled a host of better fancied and flashier rivals to win at a massive price. The Irish National winner is clearly still on an upward curve, despite the market leaders disappointing against him.
- Rearranged Fighting Fifth - Sandown will host the rearranged Fighting Fifth Hurdle which had to be called off over the weekend at an icy Newcastle. Constitution Hill is in, but perhaps even more interestingly Nicky Henderson could send one time Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner Shishkin in a fascinating move to take on his stablemate!
