The 2022 Kentucky Derby winner, Rich Strike, has retired due to injuries, preventing a return to racing. The 4-year-old colt will be offered for sale as a stallion prospect at Keeneland’s auction on Nov. 17. Owner Rick Dawson expressed hope for Rich Strike’s second career as a stallion after rehab attempts were hindered by persistent injuries. According to X, Rich Strike retired on 10th November.
Rich Strike’s historic Derby win at 80-1 odds marked the second-biggest upset in the horse racing history. Arcangelo’s unexpected retirement

Arcangelo’s career included wins in the prestigious Belmont Stakes (G1), the Travers Stakes (G1) and the Peter Pan Stakes (G3). Trained by Jena Antonucci, who became the first female trainer to win a Triple Crown event, Arcangelo campaigned under Jon Ebbert’s Blue Rose Farm. Arcangelo was a strong candidate for the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) due to his domination in the 3-year-old category and his lifetime earnings of $1,754,900.

Champion 2-year-old colt and Breeders Cup Juvenile winner, Forte (Violence–Queen Caroline, by Blame), has retired from racing due to a quarter crack in his left front foot, according to co-owner Mike Repole. Trainer Todd Pletcher expressed the need for more time to prepare for the Breeders’ Cup, leading to the decision to retire the talented colt. Forte, who earned $3 million in winnings and secured seven wins in 10 starts over two years, will stand the 2024 season at Spendthrift Farm. Repole acknowledges the emotional decision but emphasizes the need to consider the big picture.
Forte’s impressive career includes Grade I victories in both his 2- and 3-year-old seasons, making him one of Repole’s most remarkable horses. The colt faced challenges in his 3-year-old season, including a bruised hoof that led to his withdrawal from the Kentucky Derby and subsequent issues with the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission. Despite the highs and lows, Forte’s legacy is celebrated for providing thrilling moments to his owners.
