How Canucks’ Quinn Hughes is becoming a leader: ‘I’m gonna be here a long time’

Quinn Hughes was disappointed with his plus-minus after his sophomore season. He wanted to improve his defensive game and he did. Quinn's agent Pat Brisson met Quinn at the Brick U10 tournament. Quinn is now a leader in his team. His team is better this year. The team won the game. They have a better defence. Their goalie is Thatcher Demko. Hughes is a good penalty killer. Pat's client is Patrick Brissin. Jack Hughes played for Team Toronto against Pat’s son on Team California. Patrick met Jack at Brick. John. It was at a tournament where Quinn was watching his son play for Canada against Jack.

Quinn Hughes is the longest-tenured defenseman on the Canucks team. He wants to become a more prominent leader. Bo Horvat thinks Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes are the future of the team and they need to step up.  Brisson represents some of best captains and leaders in the sport. They know how to listen well and absorb and ask questions. It's what Quinn is strong at. The Canucks lost some veteran players recently. Alex Edler, Chris Tanev, Jacob Markstrom and Brandon Sutter. Elias pettersson is trying to take a step too. Brisson thinks he's a smart player and a good leader too, like Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews and Anze Kopitar.

Quinn Hughes is becoming a leader in the Vancouver Canucks. Luke Schenn and Horvat are impressed with his leadership qualities. HorVat believes that being a good leader is about setting a standard and pushing your teammates to follow along. He also believes it's important to be honest and push yourself. He believes talking a lot doesn't matter as much as pushing yourself hard. It's also important not to talk a great deal. As a captain, he's studied what works and what doesn’t as a leaders. His advice is to learn from watching other players. The captaincy is a big part of the role.
