Iga Swiatek goes into Monday’s 2023 French Open as overwhelming favorite

Iga Swiatek is the heavy favorite according to the Bonus Code Bets to repeat as champion of the Women’s French Open and win the title for the third time in her career and for the third time in four years.

Swiatek, the current No. 1 women’s player in the world, is -130 to win at Roland Garros in the tournament that begins Monday, May 22 and concludes with the championship Saturday, June 10. The 21-year-old from Poland won her first French Open title in 2020 and came back to win it again last year.

Besides her two French Open titles, Swiatek also won the U.S. Open in 2022, giving her three Grand Slam titles.

“We think Iga is going to be able to run the table over the two weeks in Paris again this year, and the odds clearly reflect that,” a spokesperson for Bonus Code Bets said. “When you look at the men’s side of the draw, without Nadal in the tournament, the odds have changed and a more spread out. It is not very often you get a minus money odds favorite BEFORE the first match it played. But we think that is a good value play right now, because those odds are going to be -400, -500 when and if the other top seeds start falling by the wayside.”

Who might be able to upset the heavy favorite? Elena Rybakina, who won Wimbledon in 2022, beat Swiatek in the Australian Open where she made it to the finals. She was also impressive in Miami and at Indian Wells. At odds of +1400 she might be a good bet.

Jessica Pegula lost to Swiatek in the quarterfinals of the French Open last year so she might be looking for a rematch with much needed experience this time. The 28-year-old American, whose parents own the NFL’s Buffalo Bills, is the current No. 3 ranked player in the world and has enticing odds of +2500.

Maria Sakkari beat Swiatek in the 2021 French Open — the only player to do so in three years at Roland Garros — so she has that going for her. And like Pegula, the Greek native, has nice odds of +2500.

Barbara Krejcikova, who won the title in 2021, is the co-third choice among the oddsmakers at +1400. American Coco Gauff, who made it to the finals in 2022 before losing to Swiatek, has odds of +3000.
