India Open 2023: Top 10 men's players to watch out for

India's biggest badminton tournament, Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2023 is taking place from January 17 to 22 at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. The Top 10 players to watch out for in the men's singles at this mega event are:

Viktor Axelson is the favourite to win the tournament in New Delhi. He won the event twice before in 2017 and 2019. Axelsen has already progressed into the Malaysia Open semi-finals.

Anthony Sinisuka Ginting is the World No. 4 shuttler. He exited in the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Open. Gintsing won the titles of Hylo Open and Singapore Open in 2022.

Lee Zii Jia is the reigning Asian champion and the second-ranked player in the world. He won the Thailand Open last year and finished second in Denmark Open. ZII JIA crashed out in opening round of the Malaysia Open in 2023.

India's current No. 1, HS Prannoy, is the favourite to win the title in front of home support. He won the Thomas Cup in 2022 and finished third at Malaysia Masters and Indonesia Open.

Lakshya Sen is the reigning Yonex Sunrise India Open champion. He is looking to defend his title. Lakshya won the title last year. The World No.10 won silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and bronze at 2021 World Championships.

Srikanth Kidambi won the India Open in 2015 and the Swiss Open Grand Prix in 2016. He was the first Indian male badminton player to reach the World Championships final in 2021. Srikant lost to Kenta Nishimoto in the Malaysia Open Round of 32.

Shi Yuqi won two BWF Tour titles last year. He returned to action for the first time in 10 months last August at the 2022 BWf World Championships. Shi lost in the opening round of the Malaysia Open in 2023.

Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy are the highest-ever ranked men's doubles pair from India. They won bronze in the BWF World Championships last year and the 2022 French Open.

Hendra Setiawan and Mohammad Ahsan are ranked second in the men's doubles. They are three-time World Championships gold medalists and silver medalist at the Commonwealth Games. Hendra and Ah san lost the 2022 India Open men’s doubles final to Chirag and Satwik.

Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik are the current World No.3 in the BWF rankings. They won the World Championship in 2022 and silver in Asian Games in 2021. The pair will be playing in Yonex Sunrise India Open 2023.
