Indiana Pacers have increasing odds for Victor Wembanyama
The Pacers odds are slowly creeping up in the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes. And while no matter how the end of the season goes in terms of wins and losses, they won’t have the best odds at number one, their overall odds of a top 3 to 4 pick are starting to increase.
Now, the Rockets and Spurs have collectively won 13 and 14 games while the Pacers have won 25. They are already out of the top couple of spots from a probability standpoint already. However if the season were to end today, what would be the Pacers odds for the first 4 picks of the NBA draft?
- 9.0% odds at first pick: Currently Wembanyama
- 9.2% odds at second pick: Currently Scoot Henderson
- 9.4% odds at third pick: Currently Brandon Miller
- 9.6% odds at fourth pic: Currently Anthony Black
- Current total odds of a top four pick: 37.2%
If they can get into the fifth lowest spot that goes up to 42.1% and in fourth it would be 50%. So the Pacers have a decent chance at closing in on a top four overall pick in the draft.
Given the Pacers are on a long losing streak, the Pacers should close up shop on winning games this season.
The Pacers are too far behind to truly prove anything to anyone this season. What we have learned are they they aren’t good enough to win a first round series, but are good enough to steal a couple of games off of anyone. They will need more top end talent as well as depth in order to be competitive in a seven games series against some of the better teams in the league.
There are multiple players in this draft that could change the direction of a franchise including both Wemby as well as Scoot Henderson. The Pacers drafted extremely well last season, another win in the draft could set them up to be competitive for the next decade.
Bennedict Mathurin is good. Myles Turner is great. Tyrese Haliburton has the potential to be generational.
But the Pacers team? They are rather mediocre at the moment, and as fans, we need to make sure we don’t put the cart before the horse.
