Influx of Aussie Punters Has Changed Special Teams Approach

There are 53 Australian punters on 50 Division I FBS teams in 2021. Six of the top 10 American football punners are from Australia. ProKick Australia trains Australian rules players to play American rules football. The program has a long history of success in the United States and Canada. It's not an easy transition to American Rules. American Football rules are different from rugby and Aussie Rules rules. The balls are 30 percent smaller in circumference and there is a pause in wind-up to punts. There are a few steps before contact in American NFL rules, while in rugby players punt from motion.
