Ireland have historically struggled in Rugby World Cups... will the world No 1 team finally get over the hump in France?

The dominance of Irish rugby over the past couple of years has been a joy to watch. Johnny Sexton and Co have established themselves as legitimate world powerhouses, winning the Six Nations, Grand Slam and Triple Crown earlier this year.

Couple that with their first-ever series triumph against New Zealand away from home in 2022 - and Andy Farrell's side now find themselves atop the world rugby rankings.

They currently are the fourth-favourites with Sky Bet at 9/2 to win the Rugby World Cup kicking off in France tomorrow - behind that of South Africa, France and New Zealand who are 10/3, 10/3 and 11/4 respectively.

That lack of faith in the market is most likely due to Ireland's poor showings at rugby's preeminent tournament in the past. They haven't gotten further than the quarter-finals in nine tries, oftentimes bowing out in disappointing fashion.

However, with a star-studded squad and a clear sense of belief - they could prove good value at 9/2. For those predicting Ireland to at least reach the final on October 28, they are paying 7/4 to progress to the decider.

Sky Bet odds to win Rugby World Cup:

New Zealand 11/4

France 10/3

South Africa 10/3
