Italy vs Uruguay Betting Tips: Predictions & Best Bets

Italy have clashes with France and New Zealand on the horizon in Group A of the Rugby World Cup, but they will be red-hot favourites to make it two wins from two when they take on Uruguay on Wednesday teatime. Uruguay suffered defeat to France in their first clash at the tournament, but having only been defeated 27-12 they will head into this match in high spirits, as they attempt to cause one of the shocks of the tournament.

Here at BettingOdds.com, our man Steve Chambers previews the first game of round three of matches and he has a brace of tips for the contest, which takes place in Nice...

Italy vs Uruguay Tips

Lorenzo Cannone Anytime Tryscorer

Italy overpowered a weak Namibia outfit 52-8 in their first match of this Rugby World Cup and while qualification is going to be tough as their last two matches will be against France and New Zealand, they will be red-hot 1/25 favourites to make it two wins from two, but there's understandably no value in backing the Europeans to claim the win.

So, it's certainly worth getting stuck into the various tryscorer markets and the one to catch the eye is for number 8 and powerhouse forward Lorenzo Cannone to score during the 80 minutes. He went over the whitewash in that aforementioned Namibia annihilation and he could be a real handful off the base of the scrum for this event and could well notch up another try.

Available around the 6/4 mark to score at anytime, the 16st Benetton star is still only 22 years old and he's continuing to show his talents on the world stage and while many punters will be looking at the backs to score during the game it's Cannone that makes the most appeal at the odds, and while it's still relatively skinny he can be a key component of a comfortable Italian win.

Italy to win by 16-20 points

Uruguay ran a much-changed France side close for most of their 27-12 contest last time out and it's unsurprising that Uruguay coach Esteban Meneses has only made two changes from that starting XV, but Italy should have far too much firepower within their squad, and it's up for question as to whether the South Americans can replicate that fine display against the hosts.

Looking at the winning margins markets, the one to side with is for Italy to win by 16-20 points, as if they can get a winnable lead then it would be no surprise to see some of their big names handed a rest for the final 20 minutes, as they will need to get something from France or New Zealand to make it into those all-important top two spots and a place in the last eight.

Italy may not be a notable force on the world rugby stage, but they are certainly a couple of classes above Uruguay, who are 16/1 outsiders for this match, and the 6/1 about Italy winning 16-20 looks a solid betting option and the value play for what is an intriguing match to kick off the next wave of games.
