Joe Carroll: Louth's greyhound racing fraternity fast out of traps with support

The local greyhound racing fraternity is good at commemorating former practitioners. In recent months events have been run in the name of Ned Lawrence, Paddy and Eamon Carroll and Peter Burke. This weekend the Arthur Boyle Memorial gets underway at Dundalk Stadium.

Peter Burke's memorial was held last Saturday. Tahina Blue won the competition. The Arthur Boyle Memorial starts on Saturday night next. On the same night, the dogs go to traps for the semi-finals of the Irish Derby at Shelbourne Park. The winner of that race will be announced on Sunday. It is the most prestigious race at Dundalk Stadium. Five of six runners crossed the line together. Quick Suzy was declared the short-head winner. Game Ball was the only one not to feature in the photo. Doreen, Peter Burke’s widow, was there on the Saturday to present the trophy.
