John Hay Whitney: Racing’s Great Ambassador
The Whitney family has been involved in Thoroughbred horse racing since the 1800s. They have owned some of the greatest horses in the history of Thumping. Jock Whitney was involved with many different sports and interests. He was a movie producer, a Colonel in U.S. military, the publisher of New York Herald Tribune, and the U.,S Ambassador to the UK. He also founded a venture capital firm J. H. Whitney & Co. in his early years. Saratoga Race Course in Sar atoga Springs, N.Y. honors the family each year with the running of Grade 1 Whitney Stakes.
