Kent State bettor lost $1.5 million in Bowling Green game bet

Sometimes, it’s just not your night.

That certainly was the case for one Florida bettor on Wednesday night who decided that MACtion was the time to wager over $1.5 million — specifically, wagering that amount on the Kent State Golden Flashes in a game against Bowling Green.

The bettor placed his wagers through the recently re-opened Hard Rock app in Florida, wagering $1.12 million on Kent State +10.5 and $426,000 on the Golden Flashes moneyline at +325 odds.

The $1.12 million wager was the largest reported bet this college football season at U.S. sportsbooks.

Kent State did go up 3-0 early, but it was all downhill after that, as the Golden Flashes were down 14-3 at the end of the first quarter and 28-6 at halftime. Kent State pulled to within 35-19 in the fourth quarter, but then gave up the game’s final two touchdowns to lose by a final score of 49-19.

The two wagers certainly appeared odd on the surface, as the Golden Flashes entered the game 1-8 straight up and 2-5-1 against the spread.

That was likely a long couple of hours for the bettor, but with that kind of bankroll (hopefully) to be firing seven figures on a Thursday night MAC game, we’re guessing we’ll hear about some other big wagers soon.
