Kentucky Derby 149 Crowns New Champion On May 6, the 149th Run for the Roses took place at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The Kentucky Derby history books recorded the epic win of Mage after a scratch-filled day. The colt earned $1,860,000 for the biggest win of his brief career.“I feel like I’m on top of the world,”  Castellano told reporters after his big win.The win gives owners joy as much of Hall of Fame jockey Javier Castellano with his first Derby win. Castellano rode for the Venezuelan trainer Gustavo Delgado. Everyone felt the victory of the day. Mage overcame 15-1 odds in front of an audience of over 150,000.
