Kentucky Derby 2021: Results and purse money at ‘The Run for the Roses’

Medina Spirit won the 147th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. It's his seventh Kentucky derby win. Mandaloun came in second, Hot Rod Charlie came third, Essential Quality came fourth and O Besos finished fifth. Essential quality entered as the favorite with 2-1 odds early in the week. Highly Motivated finished second to Essentialquality at the Blue Grass Stakes by a neck.

The 2020 Kentucky Derby took place on Sept. 5 and was won by Authentic, also trained by Baffert.

The 2021 Kentucky Derby purse is $3 million. The winning jockey will receive a 10 percent cut of the prize money.

The first place finish at the Kentucky Derby 2021 earns $1.86 million.
