Kentucky Derby Winner Medina Spirit Fails Drug Test, Baffert Suspended

Medina Spirit tested positive for the same substance found in Mr. Baffert's horse. Mr Baddert won his seventh Kentucky Derby on May 1. The Jockey Club is concerned about the integrity of the sport. The sport has a high rate of horse deaths. It is not well regulated. Rick Dutrow was banned from racing for 10 years in 2011. He was found guilty of doping. Last month, Arkansas regulators upheld a ruling that a banned substance had been found on two of his horses. They reduced his penalty from a suspension to a fine. A new law was passed to regulate the racing.
