Knicks, Rangers owner makes crazy alcohol threat

James Dolan has a revenge plan.

And it includes banishing booze from an upcoming New York Rangers game at Madison Square Garden.

Dolan, who owns the Rangers and the New York Knicks, has been criticized recently for the use of facial recognition technology at MSG. The technology is used by Dolan to ban attorneys who work for firms that have filed lawsuits against him from entering the arena.

Among those who have condemned Dolan’s use of this technology is New York’s State Liquor Authority (SLA).

Dolan responded to the SLA with a threat during an interview with FOX 5:

“The SLA is way, way beyond their skis … they’re being extremely aggressive and they’re saying, ‘We’re going to take away your liquor license.’ So I have a little surprise for them. What we’re going to do, right, is we’re going to pick a night, maybe a Rangers game, and we’re going to shut down all the liquor and alcohol in the building ... If you’re grandstanding with the press, et cetera, I’m going to tell you, ‘Go ahead, take away my liquor license. People are still going to come to the games.’”

Dolan went onto say that in the areas where alcohol is typically sold, they will instead put up pictures of SLA CEO Sharif Kabir along with his phone number.

“It says, if you would like to drink at a game, please call Sharif Kabir, Chief Executive Officer. … Tell him to stick to his knitting and what he’s supposed to be doing and stop grandstanding and trying to get press.”

The next Rangers game and opportunity for Dolan to carry out his threat is Friday night against the Vegas Golden Knights.
