Kommetdieding Scores Victory for Cape Flats Horse

Kommetdieding scores a victory for the proud Cape Flats racehorse owner.

Cape Town, South Africa (12 July 2021) – There was much to celebrate for Ashwin Reynolds when his horse Kommetdieding made history at the 2021 Vodacom Durban July this year. Based in Grassy Park, Cape Town, Reynolds is the first so-called Coloured horse owner to have clocked up this phenomenal victory.

Kommetdieding is a Michelle Rix and Harold Crawford trained horse, whose apt name translates to ‘bring it on’, or ‘I’m not afraid of you’, from Afrikaaps.

The win on Saturday, 3 July 2021, saw Kommetdieding streak to glory over 2,200m at the Greyville Racecourse in Durban. The 3-year-old colt came from the outside 18 draw to win the historic 125th edition of the race.

This year marks the second time in a row that the Durban July was held behind closed doors due to the covid pandemic.

The homecoming of the thoroughbred on Saturday, 10 July 2021, was greeted with much fanfare, and the Reynolds family was clearly delighted with their win.

Ashwin enthused that his particular passion for horses began when he was a child. This was later reinforced by his role as result scorekeeper for his grandfather, who was a punter at the time.

With the Durban July triumph under his belt, this proud champion racehorse owner plans to keep focused on the sport.

“It is a little bit costly, but if I can afford to, I will keep on racing,” he says.
