Kraken vs Golden Knights Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight

Hockey fans rejoice! The NHL is back and we have a Pacific Division showdown to kick off the festivities. The Golden Knights won three of four against Seattle last season, and our NHL picks expect Eichel to bring that dominance into this campaign.

I've been waiting for so long to say this... but the NHL is back! Us hockey lovers are treated to three games on the NHL odds board to kick off the 2023-24 campaign, with the main event taking place in Nevada between the Seattle Kraken and Vegas Golden Knights.

Vegas may not be the Stanley Cup odds top team heading into this season, but nobody can question the amount of skill this team still possesses. As for the Seattle Kraken, they'll be out to prove last year's 100-point campaign was no fluke with Calder winner Matty Beniers looking to take another step for his team.

NHL player props are one of my favorite markets to target, and I'm backing a certain Vegas superstar who is set to explode offensively during his second full season in the desert. Without further ado, here are my free NHL picks for the Kraken vs. Golden Knights on October 10.

Kraken vs Golden Knights predictions

Life works in mysterious ways sometimes. Jack Eichel was cast away to the rotten Buffalo Sabres for the first five and a half years of his career after falling behind Connor McDavid in the 2015 draft. Fast forward to the present day, and it's Eichel who is sitting pretty with the Stanley Cup.

The 26-year-old has been an offensive force since entering the league and is fresh off a 26-point playoff performance that would have seen him land Conn Smythe honors if not for Jonathan Marchessault going nuclear. Eichel is poised to start the season on the first line between Marchessault and Ivan Barbashev while also seeing time on the first power play unit.

With Eichel getting plenty of ice time and being surrounded by two capable scorers, I'm banking on the center to find his way to the scoresheet. With him to record a point at a steep -220, I'm looking to the assist market for more value.

Eichel registered 39 helpers in 67 games during the 2022-23 regular season (0.58 per game) but he jacked up those numbers during the Cup run last spring: 20 assists in 22 games (0.90 per game). The switch seemed to come with Eichel taking on more of a playmaker role as he was able to rely on his teammates while controlling the pace with his excellent puck control and insane speed.

As for the Seattle Kraken, Philipp Grubauer will get the nod between the pipes as the offseason departure of Martin Jones leaves the former Capital as the club's consensus No.1 netminder. Grubauer is coming off a 17-14-4 season where he posted an ugly .895 save percentage.

Seattle relies on blocked shots and puck control on the defensive end as their team doesn't exactly have the best defensive corps — which their 3.07 goals allowed per game last year clearly indicates — and this style of play didn't work against a Golden Knights team that won three of four against the Kraken last year.

Eichel registered three assists in three games last year vs. Seattle, and with him skating alongside Marchessault who has scored six times in eight games against the NHL's newest team, I expect Eichel to link up with his teammates for at least one tally on Tuesday.

Lastly, I don't always like to look at last season's outcomes to use in my handicap, but one look at these rosters can tell us there was very little change in either squad. Cap space tied Vegas' hands together and the Kraken continued their safe approach to managing this lineup. I expect Eichel to take a monster leap as this team's No. 1 player and that begins tonight.

My best bet: Jack Eichel Over 0.5 assists (+110 at SIA)

Eichel Over 0.5 assists

Golden Knights to win in regulation

T-Mobile Arena is known for having one of the greatest crowds in the league, and tonight won't be any different when the team has that banner raised high into the rafters. Adin Hill will look to continue his strong play from last season as he's earned starting honors and he'll surely outplay his counterpart in this game.

There's really no part of the ice Seattle has an advantage over the Knights and winning on the road will be a tall ask. Lastly, with most of my hockey SGPs, I like to add a little extra value by betting on the game to end in regulation. This game could get ugly quick and I'm banking on Vegas to take care of business in 60.

Kraken vs Golden Knights moneyline and Over/Under analysis

This line opened a few days ago with Vegas hovering around a -170 favorite while the Kraken returned as +150 dogs. Over the last two days, the line has continuously moved back and forth from Knights -160 to -170, but as of writing the moneyline stands at Vegas -155.

As for the total, it opened up at even 6.0 before action brought it to 6.5 this morning. Over 6.5 was going for plus money Tuesday morning but the line has shifted back to the original number of 6.0. Hill will surely help out with keeping this game Under, but Grubauer could cause problems for bettors who go that way.
