La Liga chief rates Liverpool's chances of sealing Kylian Mbappe transfer over Real Madrid

La Liga president Javier Tebas believes Liverpool have less than a 50 per cent chance of signing Kylian Mbappe with the Spaniard suggesting a switch to Real Madrid is more likely.

The player’s extortionate wage demands would likely rule out a move to Anfield anyway, even with the Paris Saint-Germain forward becoming a free agent this summer. His current employers have tabled a new contract offer but Mbappe has told them that he will not be signing an extension of his current terms.

Liverpool were in the market for Jude Bellingham last summer before the midfielder decided to join Real Madrid. And with the England superstar becoming an instant hit at Los Blancos, Tebas believes that will encourage Mbappe to head to La Liga too.

Asked by Marca what the probabilities are of Madrid signing Mbappe, Tebas said: "I think high. It's a personal opinion. 25-year-old player, PSG seems not... It will depend on Real Madrid, the president and what he is willing to bet on.

“Real Madrid must think that the arrival of Bellingham has made him already [him] a star, Vinicius is another. If the player wants to go to Madrid... More than 50% percent [chance]."

Mbappe’s reported wages are said to be more than three times greater than Mohamed Salah’s current rumoured weekly packet of £350,000. The exit of Jurgen Klopp may also make the Reds a less appealing prospect with Virgil van Dijk already hinting that there is the possibility that he might not be at the club beyond the summer.

Meanwhile, AS reports that Mbappe will announce his next steps within the next fortnight. It’s thought no other clubs aside from PSG and Madrid can afford the 25-year-old’s wage demands, meaning there are only two feasible options on the table; stay in Paris or head to Madrid.
