Life story: Respected rugby writer's legacy to Canterbury sport
Schumacher was a Press rugby writer for 33 years. He died in Christchurch on April 22 after a short illness, aged 70. Schumachter was the go-to-guru for anyone requiring accurate, historical data about Canterbury rugby, golf, chess, table tennis and ice skating. He also carefully curated records at his beloved East ChristChurch-Shirley Cricket Club for over 50 years and was renowned for his ability to answer sports queries. His wife Cheryl grew up on a Cheviot farm. The Press encouraged their journalists to keep scrupulous records to add authority to their reports.
