Ligue 1 returns this weekend with the first matchday. Paris Saint Germain is the favorite to win the title. Clermont Foot 63 will be the team to challenge PSG. Marseille, who haven't won the league since 2010, will play Stade de Reims. Monaco, Strasbourg and Rennes are also interested in the competition.

Paris Saint Germain is the current champion of the French league and won the Super Cup. Clermont is playing its second season in Ligue 1. Last year Clemmont was close to being relegated. They will play their debut at home against PSG.

Monaco finished third last year and this time they are looking to fight for the title. The team from the Principality is boosted by the arrival of Takumi Minamino and Breel Embolo. Strasbourg was one of the main surprises last tournament, achieving sixth place and remaining close to qualifying for Conference League.

Rennes came fourth last season and qualified for Europa League. Lyon came third and they were the second most scored team (82 goals). Lorient came fifth and were saved from relegation in the last matches of the season. They brought in goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo, defenders Montassar Talbi, Gédéon Kalulu, and Darline Yongwa.

Marseille wants to go for the title this year. The Ligue 1 runner-up was one of the teams with the most movements in the summer. More than 10 players joined the team, including the Portuguese Nuno Tavares and the Colombian Luis Suárez. Reims didn't suffer last year with relegation. In the next few days, the loan of striker Folarin Balogun from Arsenal could be confirmed.
