Live updates, scores, result and highlights as Australia set a target of 277 runs for India

Fresh from winning the Asia Cup earlier this month for a record eighth time, India will now take on Australia in a three-match ODI series as a buildup for the upcoming World Cup which they are hosting.

A dominant display by the Indians in the Asia Cup final saw hosts Sri Lanka being bowled out for just 50 runs which India chased in six overs to clinch.

The Men in Blue will now aim to build on their Asia Cup triumph and try and win the ODI series against the giants of the game Australia.

Four important team members, who were part of the Asia Cup squad will not be part of the Indian team in the first two ODIs. The players are captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav, who have been rested for the first two matches but will return to action before the third and final ODI.

In Sharma's absence, KL Rahul is all set to lead the Indian team in the first two ODIs against the Aussies.

8:04 pm - DROPPED! The ball stops onto to Rahul. He just chips at back at the spinner but Zampa fails to grab it.

Ishan Kishan is out in the middle.

7:54 pm - WICKET! Shubman is gone. Zampa is at it again. The right-hander plays a cut but the ball turns back in. Shubman misses it all ends up as the ball thuds on to the stumps.

KL Rahul comes out to bat at No.4.

7:45 pm - WICKET! After tapping the ball, Iyer charges for a risky single. Shubman sends him back but he fails to reach the crease in time, resulting in a run-out.

Shreyas Iyer is the new batter. He is batting ahead of his usual position.

7:37 pm - WICKET! Finally, Australia gets something to celebrate. Ruturaj perishes after scoring 71 runs. He misses a full delivery from Zampa while trying to play a sweep. The ball crashes onto his pads and the umpire adjudges him LBW. 

20 overs are done and Australia are still searching for a breakthrough. The first-wicket partnership is still intact for India and has yielded 129 runs so far.

7:17 pm - 50 FOR RUTURAJ! A moment to cherish for Ruturaj as he hits his debut ODI fifty. He has finally started to come good at the international level.

7:07 pm - 100 up for India! A century- stand for the first wicket, which is the fourth one for India in last 8 ODIs.

Cummins gives the ball to Adam Zampa. 

7:02 pm - 50 FOR SHUBMAN GILL! He destroys Australia's spin experiment. Smacks a four and a six to bring up his half-century in just 37 deliveries.

Pat Cummins moves to spin. Matthew Short to bowl the 12th over of the innings.

6:44 pm - India are off to a flyer. Shubman and Ruturaj are going strong. Both the batters are in 30s with India at 66/0 at the end of the first powerplay.

6:39 pm - 50 comes up for India! Ruturaj shows his class and punches the ball to point for a boundary. 

Another change in bowling. Cameron Green has the ball in his hand.

6:33 pm - DROPPED! Abbott produces a chance. Deceives Ruturaj, who edges the ball. But wicket-keeper Josh Inglis put down the catch.

A change in bowler. Sean Abbott comes to the attack. He replaces Stoinis.

6:15 pm - SIX! First maximum of the innings. Shubman brings the attack to Stoinis and deposits one into the stands. 

6:09 pm - Both the openers have have scored a boundary each and looks settled. India are 13/0 in 2 overs.

5:59 pm - The action is about to resume. India openers Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad are at the crease. Pat Cummins will start the proceedings for Australia.

5:30 pm - AUSTRALIA FINISH WITH 276 RUNS ON THE BOARD. A fine cameo by Cummins in the end as he raced to 21 from nine balls.

India need 277 runs to win from 50 overs! 

5:21 pm - WICKET! SHAMI PICKS HIS FIFTH WICKET! The slower ball does the trick as Abbott is bowled. 

Australia are 257/9 with just one to go. Adam Zampa is the new man in. 

5:20 pm - WICKET! Matthew Short gone for two as he is caught in the deep by SKY. Shami gets his fourth and Australia are 254/8 after 48.2 overs. 

Sean Abbott comes out to bat. 

5:15 pm - WICKET! Bumrah gets Inglis. Iyer holds onto the catch this time at extra cover. Australia lose their two set batsmen as Inglis departs for 45. 

Cummins comes out to bat as Australia are 250/7 after 47.2 overs. 

5:11 pm - WICKET! Stoinis goes as Shami breaks through his defence. The danger man is gone for 29 off just 21 balls. Australia are 248/5 46.4 overs. 

4:49 pm - 200 comes up for Australia in the 42nd over - Stoinis is going hard and he must continue until the end if Australia have to reach 300. 

4:39 pm - WICKET! A mix-up in the middle and Green has been run out by SKY. Miscommunication between the two batters and Green has to pay the price. 

He goes for 31 and Australia are 186 for 5 after 40 overs. 

Marcus Stoinis is the new man in. 

4:22 pm - PLAY RESUMES! Thakur with the ball and the sun is out again. 

4:05 pm - RAIN HALTS PLAY! A light drizzle has forced the covers to come on. Shouldn't be too long before we restart. 

Australia are 166/4 after 35.4 overs. 

3:50 pm - WICKET! Labuschagne stumped by Rahul. His foot was on the line but did not have anything behind the crease. Ashwin gets his first wicket as Labuschagne departs for 39.

Australia are 157-4 after 33 overs. Josh Inglis is the is the new man in. 

3:37 pm - 150 comes up for Australia in the 30th over! Cameron Green and Marnus Labuschagne are building a partnership amid gusty winds in Mohali!

3:15 pm - WICKET! Smith is castled by Shami. The ball nips back in and crashes onto the stumps after taking an inside edge. 

He goes for 41 and Australia are 112/3 after 22 overs. 

3:03 pm - WICKET! Warner is sent back to the pavilion by Jadeja and India breaks this crucial partnership. The batsman mistimes his shot and is caught at long-on by Gill. Warner departs for 52 and Australia are 98/2 in 19 overs. 

Marnus Labuschagne is the new man in. 

2:20 pm - 50 comes up for Australia! Ashwin is introduced into the attack and he is greeted with a six by Warner. 

2:10 pm - DROP CATCH! Warner dropped by Shreyas Iyer on 14.That was a and Rahul Dravid is not impressed. 

Australia are 40/1 after nine overs. 

1:33 pm - WICKET! Marsh has to go as he edges Shami to first slip! 

India draw first blood and Australia are 4/1.

KL Rahul: We’ll bowl first. Historically a good chasing ground, that’s about it. There are a few boxes that we need to tick and the boxes that we’ve ticked we need to keep doing it better. One more challenge, best team in the world so good to play against them. They are a very competitive team so we’ve enjoyed playing against them. It's always a great challenge.
