Tennessee football was a touchdown favorite over Texas A&M when early lines were released back in July. The Vols are now a 7.0-point favorite according to The Action Networ, after the line opened at 9.5.

The 22nd-ranked Vols (4-1, 1-1 SEC) and Aggies (4-1, 2-0) meet at Neyland Stadium on October 14 in a 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time kickoff that will be televised by CBS.

Texas A&M beat Arkansas 34-22 Saturday in Dallas and hosts No. 11 Alabama on Saturday in the 3:30 p.m. ET SEC Game of the Week on CBS. Tennessee has a bye week before hosting the Aggies, then playing at Alabama on October 21.

Tennessee is 3-2 against the spread this season. The Vols covered a 27.5-point spread against Virginia on September 2, winning 49-13, and covered against both UTSA, winning 45-14 as a 23.5-point favorite, and the 11.5-point line against South Carolina, winning 41-20.

Tennessee did not cover a 48.5-point spread in the 30-13 win over Austin Peay on September 9 and lost 29-16 at Florida as a 5.5-point favorite on September 16.

The Series: Vols vs. Aggies

Tennessee has played Texas A&M just twice since the Aggies joined the SEC in 2012 and only four times in the history of the two programs, with both teams winning twice.

The Vols lost 45-38 in overtime at Kyle Field in 2016 and lost 34-13 in Knoxville in December 2020, during the COVID-shortened season. 

Tennessee beat Texas A&M 38-7 in the Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Day 2005 and beat the Aggies 3-0 in the Gator Bowl in December 1957.

A Closer Look: Texas A&M

Texas A&M started the season with a 52-10 win over New Mexico at Kyle Field in College Station. The Aggies lost 48-33 a week later at Miami before bouncing back with three straight wins. They beat Louisiana Monroe 49-3 and Auburn 27-10 in back-to-back home games, then beat Arkansas 34-22 Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.

Max Johnson was forced to take over at quarterback for A&M after Connor Weigman suffered a season-ending foot injury. Johnson has completed 37 of 59 passes for 436 yards with six touchdowns and an interception.

Le’Veon Moss and Amari Daniels lead A&M on the ground. Moss has 46 carries for 276 yards and two touchdowns while Daniels has 270 yards and two touchdowns on 49 carries.

Evan Stewart leads the team in receptions (24), yards (357) and receiving touchdowns (4), just ahead of Ainias Smith, who has 22 catches for 343 yards. Noah Thomas has four touchdown catches and 118 yards on 11 receptions.
