Los Angeles Dodgers new World Series fave after Shohei Ohtani signing

After a wild Friday that saw multiple reports seeming to indicate that star free agent Shohei Ohtani could be signing with the Toronto Blue Jays, Ohtani posted on his Instagram on Saturday that he’s chosen the Los Angeles Dodgers — and for a record 10-year, $700-million deal, per Jeff Passan.

The move pushed the Dodgers — already close to the top of the 2024 World Series odds board — into the role of consensus favorite at sportsbooks. Los Angeles moved from +700 to +550 at DraftKings Sportsbook after the announcement on Saturday, while the Blue Jays — who had been co-favorites with the Atlanta Braves at one point on Friday afternoon — fell to 14-1, the seventh-best World Series odds.

“We had the Braves and Dodgers as co-favorites at 6-1 prior to the signing,” Chuck Esposito, sportsbooks director at Station Casinos told For The Win in a text message. “Dodgers are now 4-1. The Jays were 10-1 before and are now 15-1. Dodgers are favorites from combination of team strength and public perception, plus they might not be done.”

The Atlanta Braves (+700), New York Yankees (+900), Houston Astros (10-1) and Texas Rangers (10-1) have the next-best World Series odds at DraftKings.
