Rojas was acquired from the Marlins in January as a depth player, but he will now be expected to play shortstop for the majority of games, at least to begin the season.

Over the offseason, the Guardians didn’t make many roster changes, but they also weren’t really required to.

The regular suspects—Shane Bieber, Triston McKenzie, Cal Quantrill, Aaron Civale, and Zach Plesac—will make up the Guardians’ starting lineup. 

Cody Morris, who made his MLB debut at the conclusion of the 2022 season, will probably also be incorporated into the rotation, particularly if any injuries or scheduling conflicts arise.

If Civale and Plesac don’t want Morris or another Triple-A pitcher to take their place in the rotation, they’ll need to demonstrate that they can stay healthy and lower their ERAs by 2022.

The Guardians, in my opinion, are in a strong position going into 2023.

It all begins with him because he is a consistent 6-win guy. Andres Gimenez’s rise last year helped to improve a typically subpar position player group; if he repeats his 2022 success, Cleveland will have a true superstar 1-2 punch.

Basically, Ramirez keeps this top-heavy lineup competitive, but Gimenez assists in spreading out the high-level output a little.

Both left field, where Steven Kwan’s special skill set makes him one of the game’s few interesting players at the position, and the bullpen, where Emmanuel Clause presides over a number of potentially good arms before the tail end drops off, are both noteworthy as strengths.

One of baseball’s most gifted starters is Shane Bieber, and the Guardians will likely need both of them to continue their recent success if they want to win the division for a second time in a row.
