Miami Florida -1.0

Reasoning

The Louisville Cardinals take on the Miami Hurricanes in an ACC battle. Louisville has surprised most this year with a 9-1 record and has a good chance at the ACC title game. The Cardinals wheeled off a big win over Notre Dame when they were counted out but they came back the next week and lost to Pittsburgh, which is tied with 3 other teams for the worst record in the ACC. Only 1 loss is still impressive and the CFP committee agrees and has them ranked as the 10th-best team in the country. Some had Miami as a dark horse to win the ACC before the season, but the Hurricanes now have a 6-4 record with back-to-back losses in the last 2 weeks. They have lost 4 of their last 6 games and the wins were in overtime after games which could have gone either way. A win is a win, so they are bowl-eligible but it seems like a disappointing season for Miami fans.

Louisville has earned its record mostly with offense. They average 455 yards and 32.7 points per game, both of which are in the top 40 in the country. Not exactly the best offense in the country but still very solid numbers for a team with a preseason win total of anywhere from 7-8.5. Their defense is their weakness but they still allow only 318 yards and 17.1 points per game. Miami’s offensive numbers are very good but have been dropping throughout the year. In the first 6 games of the year they averaged 37.6 points per game and since then they average only 20.75. It is a smaller sample size of only 4 games, but still a significant drop. Their defense is also their weakness, allowing on average 334.6 yards and 20.7 points per game. The argument against Louisville would be the strength of their opponents this year. Other than Notre Dame, the Cardinals have played only one top-25-ranked team this year. This will be Miami’s 4th matchup against a top-25 ranked team including Florida State and North Carolina which Louisville has avoided so far this year. At the time of publishing, this game virtually a pick ‘em and because of that, I am taking Miami. These teams have similar numbers on both offense and defense and with Miami being at home it is hard not to take the Canes. Louisville stock is at an all-time high and Miami’s is at a low but the Hurricanes are 5-1 in their last 6 home games. I’ll take Miami to win at home.

Miami -1 (-110) available at time of publishing. Playable at that number.
