The Japanese stud completed a deal to buy the mare after her fourth in the Stradbroke.

“You’ve got no idea of the emotions I’m feeling at the moment,” Munce said. “It’s the ride of a lifetime with a mare like her. We paid nothing for her, she’s been all up and down the east coast for us and performed at the top level in every race she competed in.

“The Yoshida [Northern Farm] conglomerate liked her and wanted to buy her, so, reluctantly, we accepted their offer. I said to all the owners, ‘she’s at the right age, she’s been a wonderful mare, she’s had a fantastic career’.”

Palaispan ($14) got the perfect spot three-back in the running line and burst through to beat Roots ($21) by a half-length with Chaillot ($10) a neck away third.

“I knew whatever won the race today would have to be good to beat her because she improved out of sight from the Stradbroke,” Munce said.

“She was basically pulled up in the Kingsford-Smith when she pulled a shoe, so she missed a very crucial run there and she was only half fit going into the Stradbroke, she still ran fourth.

“I watched her work here on Tuesday morning and I went home and said ’I don’t care what’s in the race, they’d want to be good to beat her on Saturday.”

Outlandos takes Stayer’s Cup

Outlandos is a stayer in more ways than one and could now be set for a trip to the Grafton Cup after being too strong in the Stayer’s Cup at Randwick on Saturday.

The John Sargent-trained five-year-old has been in work since last September and at the 15th start of his preparation, Keegan Latham took inside runs to make it two wins in his past three.

“He just loves being in the stable,” Sargent said. “We will find another race for him now and he would get in well in a Grafton Cup.”

Sargent opted to come back to Sydney after Outlandos was sixth in the Brisbane Cup. Outlandos, which was $11 to $9 in betting, ran away from favourite Wahine Toa ($3.20) to win by 1¾ lengths with Shameless Miss ($8.50) nose in third.

“We thought going back to Brisbane in a small field up there today, but he goes so well here that we decided to stay at Randwick,” Sargent said.

Overriding could buy Doyle another horse

Nathan Doyle can see Overriding buying him another horse as she picked up another BOBS bonus on her city debut at Randwick in the Vinery Stallions Handicap on Saturday.

Overriding ($5) chalked up a hat-trick after Koby Jennings found a gap late to burst through to beat Miss Hellfire ($9) a head with favourite Contemporary ($3.50) a long head back in third.

“I own her, so the BOBS double up is going to give us a good start on buying another one,” Doyle said. “She has a month left of BOBS. I would like to be here and win a benchmark 72 with her and another bonus.”

Overriding has picked up $39,375 from four wins in six starts, which is worth nearly $80,000 at the yearling sales.

Doyle admitted he didn’t like Overriding’s chances as she was held until the 200m mark. “I was thinking just find a run because if she didn’t win she was going to be unlucky,” Doyle said.

Jennings was craning his neck looking for a run in the straight and got it on the Star Turn filly at the 200m mark, and then showed a nice turn of foot. When Doyle raised his concerns in the straight, Jennings quipped: “If you don’t sling that ride you never sling a ride.

“She is a really nice filly because she can get sprint quickly when she needs to and it was just a case of finding the run on her,” Jennings continued.

Salute Again gives Carroll’s another Randwick winner

Wagga Wagga trainer Wayne Carroll made it two Randwick winners in a roll when Salute Again took out the Highway Handicap on Saturday.

Carroll had been training under a stay of proceedings until a couple of weeks ago when was cleared by the NSW appeal panel in a long-running case.
