The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Piercing Arrow made the perfect start to his career in the TAB 2YO Maiden Handicap (1200m) at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Piercing Arrow, a son of I Am Invincible, was purchased by a syndicate headed up by Sir Owen Glenn, for $1m at the 2022 Magic Millions Sale.

Piercing Arrow's dam Silently is a half-sister to Group 1 winners Criterion and Comin' Through who were both raced by Sir Owen Glenn.

"A lot of depth to this colt," Bott said.

"He is a really nice individual.

"The ownership group paid good money for him as a yearling and when you look at him as a type you can see why and he's got a lovely page to back it up.

On debut, Piercing Arrow led throughout to score by three-quarters of a length from two other well-bred first starters, Need Some Luck, a son of Lovely Jubly and a half-brother to Chautauqua, for Peter and Paul Snowden, and Copacabana, a Toronado colt that was purchased for $850,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

"He's certainly got the ability to go forward with," Bott said.

"There's a lot to like about that debut performance.

"Hopefully being a colt he can go right on with it. There's some nice races for him going forward."

Bott indicated Piercing Arrow is likely to now have a break with the stable setting their sights on the rich spring targets for the colt.

"He did it so well today I think we might look to give him a break now and look at some targets later in the year," Bott said.

"We're mindful of his value and potential."

Thirty-five minutes later, another $1m plus purchase chalked up her first win when the Chris Waller-trained Outsider took out the Palace Pier @ Darley 2&3YO Maiden Handicap (1200m).

The Snitzel three-year-old filly also led throughout to win her first race at her fourth start.

Outsider cost Jonathan Munz's Pinecliff Racing $1,050,000 at the 2021 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

"A very soft lead we achieved there," Waller's racing manager Charlie Duckworth said.

"We weren't planning on leading, but we gave Kerrin (McEvoy) the option to lead if they were going to go too slow.

"No one really challenged him, and she powered away for an exciting win.

"She's obviously a very valuable filly."
