Man City's Premier League title odds slashed after Arsenal draw at West Ham
Manchester City are now hot favourites to win a fifth Premier League title in six seasons after Arsenal's 2-2 draw at West Ham on Sunday.
The Gunners threw away a two-goal lead at the London Stadium after goals from Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard looked to have set them on course for a comfortable three points. Said Benrahma scored from the spot for David Moyes' side before Bukayo Saka missed his penalty at the other end minutes before Jarrod Bowen's equaliser.
City had closed the gap on Mikel Arteta's side to four points with a commanding 3-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday. And with West Ham to thank, the Blues have been slashed to just 5/2 for the title, according to the latest offs from Betfair.
Arsenal had briefly been favourites earlier this year, but a second week in which they threw away a two-goal lead has seen them drop to 15/8 for a first title since 2004.
Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: "Man City have become odds-on favourites of 2/5 to win the league title, despite being four points behind. The Cityzens have a game in hand and host Arsenal at the Etihad next where they were able to beat European giants, Bayern Munich, in comfortable fashion.
"The Gunners have failed to hold their consecutive 2-0 leads against West Ham and Liverpool, which results in their longer odds of 15/8 to lift the Premier League trophy. It’s classic Man City to click into gear at this point of the season, it will be a season-defining match when the Gunners visit Manchester in two weeks' time."
Arsenal remain four points clear, meaning City's one game in hand would not be enough to claim top spot. But with the Blues hosting Arteta's men at the Etihad on April 26, they have a strong chance to completely turn the tide.
City have been impeccable at home in the league, winning their last six and losing only once all season. Pep Guardiola admitted after his side's win over Leicester that the welcoming of Arsenal to the Etihad will resemble a Premier League 'final'.
"Win, win, win. Arsenal have done an incredible run so far and I don't think they're going to drop many points," he said of the title race. "What you have to do is be there. It's important to us winning today for the final that we have against them in the next Premier League game.
"I would say it's a final to play more finals because if you lose this game it will be almost over. It's important to arrive in this position. We spoke a month ago that hopefully we can arrive at Arsenal having the chance to be close to them. We want this opportunity knowing how difficult it will be but before then we have the Champions League semi-final and FA Cup semi-final."
