Manchester United to play game at international rugby stadium in pre-season

In July, Manchester United will engage in a friendly match against French team Lyon at Murrayfield stadium in Edinburgh, which is the home of Scotland Rugby.

The encounter is scheduled for 19 July, preceding Erik ten Hag’s Premier League squad’s four-game tour of the United States.

This summer, the likes of Beyonce, Harry Styles, and Bruce Springsteen will also grace the stage at the Edinburgh venue, joining the football action.

The last time both teams played in Scotland was against Rangers at Ibrox. United competed in the Champions League in 2010, while Lyon participated in the Europa League in 2021.

Their most recent meeting took place in 2008 during the Champions League’s last 16 stage. United emerged victorious with a 2-1 aggregate score, eventually defeating Chelsea in the final held in Moscow.

As of now, Laurent Blanc’s Lyon side currently holds the seventh position in Ligue 1, while United ranks fourth in the Premier League.
