THE TEAM NEWS

MANLY SEA EAGLES

  • Manly Sea Eagles failed in their quest to make it three successive victories as they fell to defeat against Sydney Roosters last week with that result severely damaging their top eight hopes.
  • The Sea Eagles desperately need to get back to winning ways but will have to overcome the reigning premiers in this clash and must do so without the services of Matt Lodge who suffered an ACL injury last week.

Starting 13: Garrick, Saab, Parker, Koula, Tuaimalo Vaega, Schuster, Cherry-Evans, Sipley, Croker, Keppie, Olakau’atu, B. Trbojevic, J. Trbojevic – Interchanges: Matterson, Woods, Tuilagi, Bullemor – Reserves: Arthur, Keppie

PENRITH PANTHERS

  • Penrith Panthers were clinical once again as they ran out comfortable winners against Melbourne Storm last time out to make it six consecutive wins.
  • The back-to-back premiers look like the team to beat once again this season but they have been hit by a double blow in the spine on the eve of this game with Jarome Luai and Mitch Kenny both dropping out so youngster Luke Sommerton has been named to make his NRL debut at hooker.

Starting 13: Edwards, Turuva, Hosking, Crichton, To’o, Cogger, Cleary, Leota, Sommerton, Fisher-Harris, Sorensen, Martin, Yeo – Interchanges: Luke, L. Smith, Eisenhuth, Salmon – Reserves: Henry, Jenkins

THE PREDICTION

Manly Sea Eagles cannot afford many more losses if they are to compete in the finals but this is a daunting prospect against the reigning premiers. They slipped up against Sydney Roosters last week and the pressure is on to cause an upset against Penrith Panthers. However, the away side have been superb of late and despite losing half of their first-choice spine for this game, they should be able to extend their winning streak to seven matches while also securing an eighth successive victory over the Sea Eagles in the process.
