Maple Leafs Face Long Odds to Acquire Matthew Tkachuk

The Calgary Flames have elected for salary arbitration for Matthew Tkachuk. The Flames want to maximize their return in any potential trade. There are 31 teams interested in T kachuck. Kevin Armstrong wrote last July that the Maple Leafs should jump into the TKachunk rumor. The question is whether the Leafs would be interested.

Matthew Tkachuk would be a great addition to the Maple Leafs' top-six. He would bring a level of physicality that would make him hard to stop. T kachuck and Mitch Marner played together on the London Knights and they were dominant in junior hockey.

Maple Leafs have the means to acquire Tkachuk. It would take them moving money and some key current and futures pieces to make a trade a reality. William Nylander and Alex Kerfoot combine for a cap hit of over $10.4 million this season. Ker foot is an unrestricted free agent after this year and Nyland has two seasons left.

The Maple Leafs would like to add Matthew Knies or Rodion Amirov to their list of prospects.
