Maple Leafs same-game parlay predictions vs. Ducks Jan. 3: Take the over in Anaheim

The Toronto Maple Leafs continue their western road trip against the Anaheim Ducks.

The pregame narrative: Toronto earned a crucial win last night, blanking the Los Angeles Kings, 3-0. The Maple Leafs are now gearing up for a back-to-back against a well-rested Anaheim Ducks squad, and there is a possibility of them starting a goalie with no NHL experience. This has all the signs of a trap game and given each team's suspect goaltending, consider taking the over and the Ducks to cover.

Same-game parlay Maple Leafs predictions

Parlay: Over 6.5 goals + Rielly to score 1+ points + Ducks +1.5 (+400)

Over 6.5 goals (-130): The Leafs and Ducks have both struggled to find reliable goaltending this season.

For Toronto, Martin Jones has emerged as the dependable choice, highlighted by his shutout against a very good Kings squad last night. Unfortunately, Jones can't start every game, and with Ilya Samsonov now with the Toronto Marlies, Dennis Hildeby may be the next man up.

The six-foot-seven Swedish goaltender is poised to make his first NHL start in Anaheim. Hildeby has a 7-5-3 record and a .919 save percentage in the AHL this season.

On the Ducks side, their goalie tandem has been far below average recently. John Gibson has allowed 11 goals in his past three starts, while Lucas Dostal has a troubling .878 SV% and 3.2 goals-against average over his past 10 outings.

Additionally, Anaheim ranks inside the top 10 for goals against per game (3.39) and goals allowed on home ice per game (3.30), according to StatMuse. The Ducks’ most recent home game ended with a 7-2 Oilers win.

Other parlay picks

Rielly to score 1+ points (-143): Morgan Rielly had an impressive December in which he continued to look dynamic on offence.

Rielly finished the month with one goal and 10 assists and has four points over his last four games.

The defenseman is a mainstay on the Leafs’ PP1, and notably, the Ducks have incurred the most penalties this season (207), according to StatMuse.

Toronto is ranked in the top 10 for power-play percentage (24.8%), and if the Leafs can capitalize on their power-play opportunities, Rielly stands a good chance of adding to his point total.

Ducks +1.5 (-150): The Leafs have been awful at covering the spread this season while the Ducks have excelled.

Toronto is 11-24-0 on the puck line, while Anaheim is 20-16-0, according to Scores and Odds.

The Ducks have covered the puck line as underdogs in four of their last seven games. On the other hand, the Leafs have failed to cover in five of their last seven games when playing as favourites.

With the Leafs earning a huge win against the Kings yesterday and now facing the second game in as many nights, this has all the makings of a trap game.
