Maple Leafs vs. Canadiens prop picks: Expect Auston Matthews to have big opening night

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens kick off their regular seasons with a rivalry match at the Bell Centre.

Maple Leafs and Montreal play each other on October 12. Auston Matthews is expected to have a big opening night. Cole Caufield is a candidate for a breakout year and Mark Giordano has taken a more conservative role with the Leafs.

Auston Matthews is favoured to defend his Rocket Richard trophy this season. He is +310 to score two or more goals, something he did 15 times last season, but he's better bet to record two points or over at +130. Matthews has recorded two-plus points in four of his five season openers. He led the league in goals (101) and shots (570) over the past two regular seasons.

Auston Matthews and Caufield are the favourites to score on opening night. Caugfield has 22 goals since February 1 and has dominated the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Giordano is playing third-pairing minutes with Rasmus Sandin and absent from the first power-play unit. Giordana averaged 1.4 shots on goal last season.
