Mariners vs. Giants prediction and odds for Wednesday, July 5 (Back UNDER)

The Giants have dropped the first two games against the Mariners in this weekday series, but will hope that the reliable Alex Cobb can get the team back on track.

San Francisco sits at 46-40 on the year, firmly in the National League playoff picture, while the Mariners are trying to play catch up in the AL playoff picture at 42-42. Seattle counters Cobb with lefty hander Tommy Milone.

Here are the odds for Wednesday's matchup:

The Giants have been league average against left handers this season. MIlone looked the part in his first start of the season, allowing one earned run in four-and-two-thirds innings, but of course it's a smaller sample size than usual.

Either way, I'm skeptical the Giants can knock around Milone and the Mariners above average bullpen with the way they have handled lefty pitching this season. San Francisco has thrived at generating big hits during this heater, but the Mariners pitching staff as a whole grades out as a top 10 unit.

However, I expect some regression from the Mariners offense after scoring six runs in the first two games of this series. Cobb has pitched to an above average 3.12 ERA this season as a groundball pitcher (57% GB%). He has limited trouble all season with a low home run rate and the Mariners have struggled all season at the plate. Seattle checks in 25th in batting average and should struggle in this on eagainst Cobb.
