Marlins vs. Rockies prediction and odds for Monday, May 22

It was not a good weekend for the Colorado Rockies who got swept in a three-game series by the Texas Rangers and are now 19-28, the worst record in the NL West. Now, they’ll head back home to host the Miami Marlins for four games at Coors Field. The Marlins are 24-23 and are third in the NL East.

As the Marlins go for win No. 25, they’ll hand the ball to Edward Cabrera in Game 1 of this series.

Cabrera is 3-3 with a 5.13 ERA and will be opposed by Chase Anderson. Anderson pitched twice out of the Tampa Bay bullpen and has made one start for the Rockies. He is yet to allow a run on the season.

Despite having a starting pitcher with an ERA of 0.00, the Rockies are underdogs at home in this one.

Anderson has been very good for the two teams he’s pitched for, but he’s only had 10.0 innings of Major League work and there’s a reason he’s been on two teams already, and it’s not a good one.

In those 10 innings, he only has five strikeouts to two walks and has allowed just three hits. He’s avoiding a lot of soft contact and missing barrels entirely, but with a low strikeout rate pitching in Colorado, you’re going to get into some trouble.

With the thin air and the size of the outfield, it’s almost impossible not to find yourself in a jam if you aren’t able to generate a decent amount of swing and miss.

Cabrera on the other side, does miss a lot of bats and has 55 strikeouts in 40.1 innings so far this season. However, he has also walked 30.

In Colorado, you don’t want a lot of balls in play and while it isn’t a good thing that he has a high walk rate, it could be better then giving up a homer or a double.

Somehow, I actually like the pitcher with the ERA north of five better than the one who hasn’t given up a run yet this season in this matchup in this ballpark.

The Marlins lost their series against the Giants over the weekend, but they won four straight games prior to that because of good pitching and I think they’ll get another strong performance tonight.
