Master Piece won the Eddie Read Stakes at Del Mar. The 6-year-old Chilean-bred earned a first prize of $150,000. Anastasi, Ukegawa and Valazza’s Hong Kong Harry finished second. Abel Cedillo won under him. There was a brief incident at the start of the race. Trainer Phil D‘Amato claimed foul on the winner. Stewards looked at video for several minutes and let the results stand. Master Piece has won six of 18 starts and earned $354,412. This is his first stakes victory in the United States. It was the first win of this meet for rider Cedillos and trainer McCarthy.
