Mataderos repeats the dose in D G Jones

Mataderos won the D G Jones Banks Peninsula Trotting Cup for the Open Class trotters. The $30,000 Group Three attracted a strong field of 11 runners. Last year's winner Matadero won by three and a quarter lengths. Aardiebythehill came third. Resolve came fourth. It was the first time the Moutukarara track had been used in six months. There was a six-month break between the last two races. This time it was cold. it's the second time this year the track has been open. the race was held on the grass.

Mataderos is the sixth trotter in 58 years to win the Group Three feature twice. He joins About Now, Call You Later, Game Command, Lyell Creek and Springbank Richard. Matadero's connections are planning a hat trick in 12 months. The attention for Matadero will turn to the Dominion.
