Melbourne Cup fashion: Hidden detail in Delta’s races fit

Songstress Delta Goodrem has revealed a hidden detail in her race day glam, as Australia’s biggest stars flock to the race that stops the nation.

About 80,000 punters are expected to arrive at Flemington Racecourse on Tuesday for the Melbourne Cup, with sports stars, a-listers and social media stars expected to flood the exclusive Birdcage area.

The Born To Try singer wore a dramatic citrus yellow gown with a sweeping head piece and gold jewellery.

She told 9Honey the jewellery was designed by ANTON, the same Australian designer who crafted the engagement ring fiance Matthew Copley used to propose in September.

The late Princess Diana’s nieces, Lady Amelia Spencer and Lady Eliza Spencer, arrived on the carpet just after 11am.

The pair turned heads in bright red gowns, accentuating the look with glamorous headpieces.

DJ Perri Lee flirted with the dresscode in an apricot mermaid cut satin skirt and matching bralette with a nude corset to cover her bare midriff.

While model and journalist Kate Waterhouse stuns with a creative take on the pastel blazer dress with popped collar and scalloped hemline.

A warm and mostly sunny day is in store for the iconic event with temperatures forecast to climb as high as 30C by 2pm.

A possibly severe storm is brewing over the area, with Cup organisers hopeful it holds off until after 3pm when the race gets underway.

Racing fashion is getting a major shake-up this year after the Victoria Racing Club announced last month that a number of dress code restrictions will be eased at this year’s Cup.

For the first time in history, both men and women are allowed to wear shorts in the members’ section.

Women are also able to show off their midriffs and exposed backs in the celebrity-filled Birdcage enclosures for the first time in the Cup’s more than 160-year history.

The race will be broadcast on Channel 10 with race day programming to run from 10.30am to 5.30pm (AEDT).

The favourite to win this year is Irish import Vauban, closely followed by Caulfield Cup winner Without a Fight in second and 2022 Cup winner Gold Trip.

Vauban’s stablemate Absurde has also soared in popularity in recent days, with odds halving from $21 to $10 in just 48 hours.
