Miami football completely left out of AP Poll

The Miami football team was completely left out of the Associated Press Poll that was released on Monday. Number eight Florida State is the highest-ranked ACC team followed by number nine Clemson and 21st-ranked North Carolina. Pittsburgh, Louisville and North Carolina State are other ACC teams in the AP Poll.

Florida State received 1,147 points, Clemson 1,032  North Carolina 292, Pittsburgh 16, Louisville 10 and NC State one. Texas A&M which Miami hosts on September 9 is the only other 2023 Miami opponent to appear in the AP Poll and 22nd. Pittsburgh is 32nd, Louisville is tied for 34th and North Carolina State is tied for 46th.

Miami is 41st in the USA Today Coaches Poll that was released last week. Clemson is eighth in the Coaches poll, Florida State ninth, North Carolina 20th and Texas A&M is 25th as the only 2023 Miami football opponents ranked in the top 25 of the Coaches’ Poll. NC State who is 36th is the other ranked 2023 Miami opponent.

This is the first time that the Miami football team was left out of the AP Preseason Top 25 since 2020. Miami finished the 2020 season 8-3 and 22nd in the final poll. The Hurricanes began the 2021 season ranked 21st in the AP Top 25. Miami was 14th nationally in the 2022 AP Top 25.

The Hurricanes have a chance to quickly move into the rankings. Miami begins the season versus Miami (Ohio) on September 1 and hosts Texas A&M the following week. After Texas A&M, Miami hosts Bethune-Cookman on September 14, plays at Temple on September 23 and hosts Georgia Tech on October 7.

Miami has a bye week the weekend of September 30. If Miami can defeat Texas A&M they have an excellent chance to begin the season 5-0. Miami is listed as a 17.5-point favorite versus Miami (Ohio) by FanDuel and a 7.5-point underdog against Texas A&M. None of the other 2023 Miami games have lines posted.
