The 2020 Miami Marlins were easily Major League Baseball's surprise team. They finished last in the National League East in 2019, but they won 31-29 in a shortened 60-game season. Extrapolated to a 162-match season, they finished with 84-win record.
Kim Ng became the first female general manager in MLB history when the Marlins hired her to replace Michael Hill in the front office. Kim Ng reunites with former Yankees Derek Jeter and Gary Denbo. She also is the fifth individual in club history to hold the top position in baseball operations. The team's pitchers are well ahead of their hitters. Brian Anderson and Starling Marte are the team’s only offensive players.
Dan Greenlee, Adrian Lorenzo, Joey Nero, Keith Johnson, Lee Tressel and Paul Campbell were promoted. Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, Pensacola Blue Wahoos, Beloit Snappers, and Jupiter Hammerheads were added to the player development system. Miami selected PaulCampbell from the Rays. The team also acquired Zach Pop from Arizona and Jake Fishman from Blue Jays. New TV deal with FOX Sports Florida will help the team's payroll flexibility. Marlins and Rays will play each other in Interleague Play for the second straight season.
