Michael Owen has a chance to scoop the Britannia Stakes on Thursday at Royal Ascot with Mr McCann who lives at his Manor Park Stables.

The three-year-old colt is entered into Royal Ascot 1m contest which is due off at 5pm and is owned by a few familiar faces.

The horse is owned by five current and one former Red in Jordan Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, James Milner, Andy Robertson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana.

Owen reportedly exchanged a few texts with Milner – who can be known to back a winning horse – and ended up with the players buying the horse for £65,000.

Now the 3-year-old could return their investment in just one run at the huge Royal Ascot festival on Thursday‘s race which offers £64,800 in prize-money to the winner.

Mr McCann’s odds are 66/1 in a huge field of 30 horses at 5pm today.

But after his run at Chester in early May coming fifth behind the impressive Star Of India, this looks to be a great each-way chance for the Liverpool lot.

Last time out, Mr McCann travelled to Germany to take part in the German 2000 Guineas where he finished an impressive fourth.

Now the Liverpool players are sending him down in grade which could well prompt a winning run.

The horse is trained by Hugo Palmer, who is based out of Owen’s stable, has won twice already including at Epsom in September where he won by over five lengths.

The horse clearly has plenty of potential and was an early entry to the Epsom Derby before connections opted for different races.

Owen explained to The Mirror: “A horse called Mrs Milner won at Cheltenham and I remember texting James Milner straight after the race with some form of remark.

“Anyway a few exchanges later and I managed to sell them a horse.

“James Milner was the leader of the gang, he went back into the dressing room the next day and rounded another five of them up.

“So there’s six of the guys that own the horse (and Milner), I keep trying to tell them how lucky they are – to win three times last season as a two-year-old.

“We went to the breeze-ups (sales), Ed Sackville bought him for £65,000 and he has been an absolute star.

“Every time we step him up in trip he tends to get better so we are very excited about him.”

Mr McCann is aptly named after Liverpool’s press officer, Matt McCann.
