Michigan Football 2023 Football Preview
The Michigan Wolverines are expected to be a preseason top three team in 2023. The team is expected with 15-18 starters and a coaching staff that will remain intact. Michigan has won 25-3 over the last two seasons.
East Carolina will play Michigan on September 2. It will be the first time the two teams have met. ECU finished 8-5 last season and beat Coastal Carolina in the Birmingham Bowl.
Barry Odom is the new head coach at UNLV. He was most recently a defensive coordinator at Arkansas and a head football coach from 2016-2019 at Missouri. UNL has only won more than six games once since 2000. Michigan and UNLL have only played once before (2015), when Michigan won 28-7.
Michigan Football 2023 Football Preview is released. Michigan is undefeated in two meetings against Bowling Green (2000 and 2010). Michigan most recently beat Bowling green 65-21.
Rutgers will play Michigan in the Big Ten opener on September 23, 2023. Last year Rutgers beat Michigan 52-17. Rutgers is gaining experience and has a young team with a promising quarterback.
Michigan plays at Nebraska on September 30th. First-year head coach Matt Rhule is replacing several key players. Rhules took over a decimated Baylor program and posted a 1-11 record in his first season. By his third season, he took Baylor to the Sugar Bowl and they posted an 11-3 record.
Rhule will look to establish a physical identity on both sides of the ball and air the football out. Michigan has won three-straight games against the Cornhuskers.
Michigan plays Minnesota on October 7th, 2023. Head coach PJ Fleck has guided the Gophers to nine wins in three of his four seasons and an undefeated 4-0 bowl record. He has to replace star running back Mo Ibrahim and quarterback Tanner Morgan. Christ Autman-Bell will return from injury. Michigan has never lost to Minnesota at Michigan.
Indiana football has been struggling the last two seasons. Last season, the Hoosiers won 6-2. They had a 2-10 record in 2021 and a 4-8 record in 2022.
The Hoosiers are facing many questions, including the graduation of Shaun Shivers and Connor Bazelak. Christian Turner is a former Michigan player.
After a disappointing 5-7 campaign in 2022, the honeymoon is over for head coach Mel Tucker. The Spartans face questions at quarterback and wide receiver with the departures of Payton Thorne and Jayden Reed. They return All-BIG Third Team receiver Keon Coleman and have been active in the transfer portal.
Mel Tucker is the only Big Ten coach that Michigan's head coach has a losing record against. Tucker needs to improve his defense to get Michigan State back to the top of the Big League.
BYE week is a great opportunity to reset and refocus for the final quarter of the season.
Ryan Walters will take over as head coach of Purdue. He will have to replace the likes of Aidan O'Connell and Charlie Jones. Michigan has won five-straight games against Purdue since 2009.
Michigan and Penn State will play each other on November 11th. Michigan rushed for 418 yards against Penn state last year. Penn Staters won in the waning minutes in Happy Valley in 2021.
Maryland plays at home against Alabama on November 18th. Head coach Mike Locksley and quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa are still in College Park.
Maryland has not lost to Michigan under Jim Harbaugh.
The quarterback position will make or break the season for the Buckeyes. Whoever steps in will be surrounded with the best weapons in college football. The team is under pressure to beat Michigan and win the Big Ten East.
Ohio State and Michigan are going to play each other in the Big House in 2023.
