Michigan State football: 15 Spartans selected for Shrine Bowl 1,000 watch list

Michigan State football could field an entire unit out of the players selected to the Shrine Bowl 1,000. Fifteen Spartans made the list, released Monday, which effectively serves as a watch list for NFL Draft-eligible players for the 2024 East-West Shrine Bowl game.

The Spartans on the game’s radar include linebacker Aaron Brule, defensive back Angelo Grose, linebacker Cal Haladay, defensive back Chester Kimbrough, linebacker Darius Snow, offensive lineman JD Duplain, linebacker Jacoby Windmon, running back Jalen Berger, defensive tackle Jalen Sami, tight end Maliq Carr, offensive lineman Nick Samac, cornerback Semar Melvin, defensive tackle Simeon Barrow, offensive tackle Spencer Brown and wide receiver Tre Mosley.

“The Shrine Bowl 1,000 serves as the first look at who may be at the 2024 East-West Shrine Bowl,” Eric Galko, Shrine Bowl Director of Football Operations and Player Personnel, said in a press release. “Our staff combed through all four levels of college football, evaluating thousands of Shrine Bowl-eligible players, to find the top players in the country. We’re excited to recognize these players for their accomplishments so far, and make sure that fans, media and NFL clubs know that these players are among the best in the nation.”

MSU sent a pair of players to last year’s Shrine Bowl – a showcase event that gives NFL hopefuls an opportunity to compete and perform in front of pro football evaluators – in tight end Daniel Barker and linebacker Ben VanSumeren.

Three Spartans heard their names called in the 2023 NFL Draft, giving MSU representation in two consecutive drafts. Wide receiver Jayden Reed went to the Green Bay Packers in the second round, while punter Bryce Baringer and cornerback Ameer Speed both were sixth-round picks of the New England Patriots.
