Michigan State football awaits bowl game fate, odds stacked against Spartans

Michigan State football finished the season with a disappointing 2-game losing streak. The team is 5-7 on the year and is unlikely to go to a bowl game. There are currently 79 FBS teams with 6-6 records or better. UNLV and Tulsa have a higher APR than Michigan State. Both teams fired their coaches this season. If there are not enough 6/6 teams to fill all the bowl bids, the selection process turns to Academic Progress Rate. There is a chance Michigan could get invited to the game, but it's unlikely. Michigan, who will make the playoff, would bring the conference's number down to 8.
