Minnesota Football: Spring Position Previews
The spring football practice at Minnesota is underway. The team will play the spring game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 30.
Thomas Rush and De’Angelo Carter are returning starters. Logan Richter, Jalen Logan-Redding, Jah Joyner, Danny Striggow, Gage Keys, Luther McCoy, Jacob Schuster, Deven Eastern, and Austin Booker are also returning. Darnell Jefferies, Lorenza Surgers, Hayden Schwartz, Kyler Baugh, Trey Bixby, Anthony Smith are new enrollees.
Boye Mafe, Esezi Otomewo, Nyles Pinckney, Micah Dew-Treadway, Val Martin, M.J. Anderson, and Rashad Cheney are out the door.
Minnesota's defensive line is in need of improvement after graduation of Nyles Pinckney, Micah Dew-Treadway, Boye Mafe and Esezi Otomewo. The Gophers have a number of promising young players. They are looking for a new defensive tackle. They also need to find a defensive end. M.J. Anderson transferred to Iowa State. Austin Booker has impressed in the spring. Minnesota ranked 8th in run defense last year. It allowed 97.5 rushing yards per game. Their defensive tackles are De’Angelo Carter, Logan Richter, Darnell Jefferies, Jacob Schuster, Gage Keys, Thomas Rush and Jalen Logan-Redding.
