MLB parlay picks May 29: Bet on Astros’ Jose Altuve

It’s Memorial Day in the United States of America, which means we have a day full of baseball ahead of us.

The pregame narrative: Jose Altuve is back and swinging a hot stick, making him a great selection to register a hit. Brandon Crawford and Wilmer Flores are a pair of San Francisco Giants who have hit Pittsburgh Pirates starter Rich Hill well, making them targets for our parlay.

MLB parlay picks

Parlay: Altuve over 0.5 hits + Crawford over 0.5 hits + Flores over 0.5 hits (+222)

Altuve over 0.5 hits (-275): Anybody worried about Altuve being rusty upon returning can rest easy.

The Houston Astros star has been excellent since coming back from a fractured thumb, slashing .370/.452/.593 across 31 plate appearances.

His impressive numbers include a hit in each of his last six outings, a trend we expect to continue on Monday against Minnesota Twins starter Sonny Gray. Although Gray is enjoying a fine year in his own right (1.82 ERA), his recent numbers aren’t as encouraging. He owns a 3.72 ERA through four starts in May.

Altuve has also dominated this battle in the past, earning 12 hits in 34 at-bats versus the righty per Swish Analytics.

Quick picks

Crawford over 0.5 hits (-150): Crawford isn’t someone we normally target for our parlays, but Monday is an exception.

The shortstop is batting just .177 this season with a .262 on-base percentage and a .333 SLG. He has shown some signs of improvement ahead of this contest, however, with a hit in three consecutive games and a .333 average during this stretch.

He’ll benefit from squaring off against Hill, as the historical head-to-head favours Crawford. He has eight hits in 20 at-bats against the lefty.

Hill isn’t having a great season, either, owning a 4.27 ERA while allowing 56 hits over 52.2 innings pitched.

Flores over 0.5 hits (-240): Lastly, we’re looking to Crawford’s teammate to come through with a hit.

Flores is having a bit of a down season, hitting just .238. The power is still there, however, as his SLG (.434) is one tick higher than his career average (.433).

His recent results aren’t encouraging as he only has one hit in his last seven games, but we’re really leaning into this matchup against Hill. These two have met 14 times in the past, and Flores has five hits. That includes a pair of doubles and a homer off the veteran hurler.

Targeting Flores when he’s facing a lefty is not a bad strategy. He has a .262 career average against southpaws compared to a .213 average against righties.
