MLB parlay picks Sept. 1: Bet on Blue Jays and Astros to win

There's a full slate of MLB action on Friday after a quiet Thursday night of baseball.

The pregame narrative: The Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros both hold a significant pitching advantage and are two of our picks to win on the moneyline. The Baltimore Orioles and Arizona Diamondbacks are sending a pair of struggling arms to the mound, making the over a worthwhile wager.

MLB parlay picks

Parlay: Blue Jays moneyline + Astros moneyline + Orioles vs. Diamondbacks over 7.5 runs (+226)

Blue Jays moneyline (-186): Toronto's pitching advantage over the Colorado Rockies is enormous.

Colorado sends Chris Flexen to the mound and he's worth worth picking on. The righty has a 6.94 ERA and a 6.37 FIP this season, allowing opposing hitters to bat .322 against him with a .931 OPS this season.

It doesn't seem to matter much who's pitching for the Rockies, either, as they've lost nine of their last 10 games.

Toronto counters with Hyun Jin Ryu and he's been really solid since returning this year. He has a 2.25 ERA and opposing batters are managing a measly .211 average against him.

The Blue Jays have won each of his last four starts.

Quick picks

Astros moneyline (-177): Houston holds a sizeable pitching edge over the New York Yankees tonight.

The Astros are starting Justin Verlander and he's been exceptional since being acquired from the New York Mets at the trade deadline. Verlander has a 2.79 ERA and 3.30 FIP in five starts since reuniting with the Astros, winning each of his last four outings.

Houston is hot, too, entering this series on a five-game winning streak.

New York counters with a struggling Carlos Rodon, who has a 5.97 ERA with an even worse 6.79 FIP in his eight appearances. The Yankees have won just one of his eight starts in 2023.

The Bronx Bombers have lost 13 of their last 18 contests.

Orioles vs. Diamondbacks over 7.5 runs (-286): Lastly, we're taking a teased-down over between Baltimore and Arizona.

The Orioles are deploying Cole Irvin and he hasn't been good in any pitching role this year. He has a 4.78 ERA and a 4.29 FIP and struggled his last time out. He surrendered four runs through six innings of work in a home date against the Rockies.

The over on this total has hit in each of his last two starts.

Zach Davies gets the ball for Arizona and he's also been hit hard. He takes a 6.93 ERA with him into Friday's contest and is allowing opposing batters to swat .280 off him.

Eight-plus runs have been scored in nine of his 13 appearances this season.
